Green Machine Trimmer Review: Aluminum Shaft

We are looking into Green Machine’s 62V line of outdoor power equipment and have loved what we have seen so far! Today we turn our attention to Green Machine’s aluminum shaft cutters to see how well they perform in difficult conditions.
Green Machine uses a brushless motor to power this thread cutter. Using 0.095 inch wire, it reaches a top speed of 6300rpm in sport mode. There’s also an economy mode where you can save time with a lighter finish. 6300 rpm is excellent, and combined with a line of premium products such as the Echo Black Diamond, this string trimmer cuts through thick grass and thickets quickly.
As we expected, this model has variable speed triggers so you can control the speed of the line if you don’t need maximum RPM in any of the modes. On the left side is the trigger safety. If you are right-handed, it is easy to press with your thumb. Lefties don’t have much of a problem either. While it would be easier to have the option on both sides, using your index finger to enter the safe area to work is not a problem.
Another cool feature is that you can also adjust the cutting bar from 14 to 16 inches. The knife on the guard is in the 16″ position. If you need a shorter length or more run time, use a Phillips screwdriver to take it off and flip it over. Like most wire trimmers, this one uses a dual wire feed mechanism.
Depending on the speed settings you’re using, Green Machine tells us you can expect around 30 minutes of continuous use from a 2.5Ah battery. Even if you have detailed landscaping, the response time is enough to mow most 1/2 acre lawns. Any 62V Green Machine battery will work with this trimmer, so you can always plug in another battery if you need more run time.
While we certainly used more vibrating trims, the number of trims on this model was noticeable. Of course, it’s still far from the vibration of a gas model, it just doesn’t challenge the best we’ve tested. If that’s important to you, look into Green Machine’s carbon fiber shaft threaders, as carbon fiber absorbs vibrations better than aluminum.
This aluminum shank cord cutter is 70 inches long end to end, weighs 9.9 pounds and has a 2.5 Ah battery capacity. Overall, this trimmer is well balanced as the brushless motor in the head offsets the weight of the battery.
Any lawn care professional or serious weekend warrior will tell you that line changes are the worst aspect of most trimmers. However, Green Machine makes it incredibly easy. When it’s time to change your thread, you simply thread your favorite piece through the loop to the center, then turn the cap counterclockwise to wrap it. You do not have to disassemble the head and wind the wire manually.
This 16-inch cord cutter kit is a Home Depot exclusive online and retails for $157. The kit includes a 2.5 Ah battery and a single port charger. Green Machine backs this kit with a 5-year limited tool warranty and a 3-year limited battery warranty.
Green Machine works great, it’s an easy to use thread trimmer. What really sets it apart is its value. The kit costs less than $160, which is significantly cheaper than other models with similar characteristics. If you’ve been waiting for an excuse to upgrade to a gas or wired model, but the cost has been hesitant, we recommend giving the Green Machine a try.

In addition to manually rewinding the line, it looks attractive. But my favorite way to rewind is another brand of autorewind called Floyd. I don’t use three-letter words and give them free publicity. ;)
